Excessive sweating is not a cosmetic issue but a medical diagnosis – and for many people a daily burden at work and in private life. Botulinum toxin selectively blocks the signal to the sweat glands in the treated area. Sweat production there is significantly reduced, while the body's temperature regulation remains intact.
Who is this treatment for?
For adults with excessive sweating of the underarms or hands where antiperspirants are not effective enough. Many people plan their day around sweating – what to wear, shaking hands, meetings. That is exactly what this treatment addresses.
When is it not suitable?
During pregnancy and breastfeeding, with certain neuromuscular conditions, and if there is an infection in the treatment area. If there are signs of an underlying condition, we discuss the necessary investigation.
How does the treatment work?
Every treatment begins with a detailed consultation – medical history, an honest assessment and full information. After the analysis the area is marked and prepared with numbing cream – particularly sensible on the hands, where the skin is more sensitive. The active substance is then placed in many small superficial depots using very fine needles.
Possible side effects
Minor redness or swelling at the injection sites usually settles quickly. On the hands a temporary feeling of reduced grip strength may occur, which resolves within a few weeks. I explain all risks personally beforehand.
Products used
I work exclusively with botulinum toxin preparations approved in Austria from established manufacturers.

Frequently asked questions
Will I sweat more elsewhere?
Your body's temperature regulation remains intact. Only a clearly defined area is treated; the rest of the body continues to work as before.
How often does it need to be repeated?
Usually every six to nine months. Many patients schedule the treatment before the warmer season.
Is the treatment on the hands painful?
The skin on the palms is more sensitive than under the arms, so I use numbing cream there. Most patients find the treatment easily tolerable.
Does health insurance cover the cost?
As a Wahlärztin I invoice privately. Please clarify directly with your insurer whether and to what extent reimbursement is possible.
