What is it and what is it for?
Botulinum toxin – commonly known as „Botox“ – selectively relaxes the muscles that cause expression lines: frown lines, forehead lines, crow's feet. The skin above smooths out and the face looks more rested. Correctly dosed, your facial expression remains fully intact.
How does the treatment work?
After a brief analysis of your facial movement, small amounts are injected into the relevant muscles with a very fine needle. The treatment takes around 10 to 15 minutes. The injections feel like small pinpricks – anaesthesia is usually not necessary.
When will you see the result?
Not immediately. The effect begins after three to five days and is fully developed after about fourteen days. The result lasts on average three to four months, and often longer with regular treatment.
What should you expect afterwards?
- Small areas of redness or swelling at the injection sites – usually settling within a few hours
- Occasionally a small bruise – coverable with make-up, gone within a few days
- Rarely, a mild headache on the day of treatment
What to bear in mind
- For 4 hours after treatment: do not massage or rub the treated areas, and do not wear make-up
- For 24 to 48 hours: no intensive exercise, no sauna, no sunbed, no alcohol
- Timing: plan important occasions such as a wedding, photo shoot or holiday at least three to four weeks after the treatment – by then the result is fully developed and any bruising has healed
Who is this treatment not suitable for?
During pregnancy and breastfeeding, with certain neuromuscular conditions, and if there is an infection in the treatment area. We discuss all of this beforehand.
A natural result
The aim is never a frozen face. A well-treated face does not look treated – only rested.
