What is it and what is it for?
In microneedling, very fine needles create controlled micro-injuries in the skin. That sounds more dramatic than it is: the skin responds with repair, forming new collagen and elastin. The result: finer pores, a more even complexion, improved texture and softened acne scars.
How does the treatment work?
After thorough cleansing and numbing cream, the skin is treated systematically with a medical device. The session takes around 30 to 45 minutes and is well tolerable – most people describe a tingling or light scraping sensation.
When will you see the result?
Gradually. Collagen formation takes weeks. Microneedling works as a course: usually three to six sessions four to six weeks apart. First improvements often show after the second session.
What should you expect afterwards?
- Redness resembling mild sunburn – one to three days
- A slight feeling of tightness and fine flaking in the following days
What to bear in mind
- For 24 hours: no make-up, no exercise, no sauna
- Consistent sun protection (SPF 50) in the weeks after the treatment – the skin is more light-sensitive
- Avoid irritating actives such as retinol and fruit acids for a few days
Who is it not suitable for?
Active inflammatory acne, cold sores, infections or open areas in the treatment zone, and pregnancy. If you are prone to cold sores, we discuss preventive medication.
Good to know
In medical hands, microneedling can be carried out with individually chosen needle depths and combined with medical active ingredients, Microbotox or PRP. Which depth and which combination makes sense in each case depends on the condition of the skin and the treatment goal, and is assessed medically beforehand.
