For chronic migraine, botulinum toxin is a recognised treatment option. The active substance is injected at several points according to a defined scheme across the forehead, temples, neck and shoulders. The aim is to reduce the number of migraine days and to lessen the severity of attacks.
Who is this treatment for?
For adults with chronic migraine – headaches on at least 15 days a month, of which at least eight have migraine characteristics. During the consultation we go through your symptoms, their history and your previous treatment together.
When is it not suitable?
During pregnancy and breastfeeding, with certain neuromuscular conditions, and if there is an infection in the treatment area. If headaches are new or have changed suddenly, the cause must first be medically investigated.
How does the treatment work?
Every treatment begins with a detailed consultation – medical history, an honest assessment and full information. The active substance is placed at defined points according to a standardised scheme – across the forehead, temples, back of the head, neck and upper shoulder. Injections are superficial and use a very fine needle; anaesthesia is usually not necessary.
Possible side effects
Minor redness or tenderness at the injection sites is possible. Occasionally temporary neck tension occurs. I explain all risks in detail beforehand.

Frequently asked questions
How quickly does the treatment work?
Improvement usually appears after two to four weeks. The full effect is often only reached after the second treatment – some patience is needed here.
How often is treatment given?
Usually every three months. Whether and for how long treatment continues is decided together based on your progress.
Can I continue my current medication?
The treatment does not replace existing therapy. We discuss which medication you take during the consultation.
How does it differ from aesthetic Botox?
The active substance is the same, but the injection scheme, the number of points and the amount differ – here the aim is to reduce symptoms, not to treat wrinkles.
